Rubicon Classics is proud to present the third album on the label from award-winning pianist, conductor, and composer Karim Said. Karim first came to the attention of the UK audience through Christopher Nupen’s film Karim’s Journey, which followed the then 14-year-old from his family home in Jordan to the Purcell School in London.
Discovered by Daniel Barenboim at the age of ten, Karim was described by the maestro with the unforgettable words: “What he already knows you cannot learn.” Barenboim later arranged for Karim to study in London and became his mentor. He now performs widely across Europe and the Middle East and has established his own orchestra in Amman.
This album marks Karim Said’s concerto recording debut, featuring works that lie at the heart of Barenboim’s own repertoire. The concerto is conducted by Domingo Hindoyan, a fellow West-Eastern Divan alumnus and longtime friend and collaborator of Karim. The chemistry between them is palpable.
